Exercising Blues

funny pictures of cats with captions

You know those days when you just don't wanna? It's raining or snowing outside? You had a long day at work? The kids have xyz that you need to take them to? There's something great on the tube?

I'm having one of those days right now. Even as I type this post I'm sitting in my workout clothes half talking myself out of putting in the yoga DVD. I know that when I'm done I'll feel GREAT, but right now...I've got every excuse in the book.

What do you do to kick those exercising blues? How do you push through to get the minutes done and move on with your day?

I know I'm not the only one with exercise blues--or having a tough time getting those first few miles in. Share your motivation with us!

I'm putting out a call for guest posters. If you've got an idea of something you'd like to post, please let me know in the comments or via email.

I'll give you three of my motivators...

#1: Putting on a bathing suit at the end of the week. I am seeing girlfriends on Friday that I haven't seen in 25 YEARS! I don't want to scare them! (Two of these friends, BTW, are in on this challenge. We shall be walking on our girls' vacation!)

#2: Being accountable to you. There is a certain amount of shame in reporting to you that I have set a goal of 20 miles for the week, and I only walked 1! I can't let it happen, no matter how loudly the computer it calling my name!

#3: I'm in the middle of some great audio books. I can't wait to see what happens next. Right now, its just me and Sarah Waters. We are best buddies.

I tell myself 1 mile is better than no miles, and I just walk a mile. Lame, but at least I do something.

*Sandy - How fun that you guys are walking together on your vacation! Both my mom and sister have joined the challenge and I've been doing workouts here and there with them. That definitely helps. Which Sarah Waters? I just finished Fingersmith (still trying to write that review).

*Softdrink - Yes, one mile IS better than no miles!! I just did 30 minutes of yoga. I figure 30 minutes is better than zero minutes.

My clothes aren't fitting as well as they used to so that is my motivation. I really don't want to have to go buy new clothes so I've been pushing myself more than I probably would otherwise. I'm also visiting family for Thanksgiving and I don't want to feel self conscious because my clothes are a little snug, so I'm doing what I can to help that.

I am going to HAWAII in February, less than 4 months away! My problem is that I don't want to start exercising while my kids are up because being interrupted every 2 minutes is frustrating.

I have a neighbor I meet everyday at 5 PM on the dot with dogs in tow for a 1 mile walk. By having to make sure we don't disappoint each other, it gets us moving if one of us is having a bad day!

My first few weeks were crap! I just have to keep telling myself that my son is going to be 2 years old in 3 weeks.....I can't keep blaming baby weight! I just need to be healthier. And I agree with Jill, even if I tell you 1 mile, it's better than no miles!

I listened to The Little Stranger on audio this summer and LOVED it, so I grabbed whatever other audio I could find. In this case it is The Night Watch. I REALLY wish my library had Fingersmith on audio but they don't. Everyone says it is their favorite Waters book. Guess I'll have to do an interlibrary loan!

I hate those kind of days. One of the things I try to tell myself is what would I really be doing instead, usually sitting around watching tv or blogging! So I might as well get off my butt and do it

I'd like to join in...I clicked of from Jeanette (at the Hen House). I know I'm three weeks behind, but I still think I can do it. Can I join? Do I need to sign mr. Linky on the first post?
